Stirrers play a vital role in the biopharmaceutical industry and the key technology is the reliability of the seal. The majority of stirrers currently use single- or double-faced mechanical seals, a traditional sealing technology which is still essentially a dynamic seal. It requires lubrication, cooling, contact, relative movement, heating, wear and tear, material shedding, maintenance and risk. Therefore, for the demanding requirements of the bio-pharmaceutical industry, mechanical seals have their limitations.
